Is this therapy?
No, Social Sparks Coaching is not therapy. Our services are educational, proactive, and focused on social-emotional skill-building. We do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. Instead, we help children learn and practice real-world skills—like emotional regulation, communication, and problem-solving—in a playful, supportive setting. Think of it as a “practice space” for social and emotional growth. Learn more on our Home page.
Who is this for?
Our sessions are designed for children who may benefit from extra support navigating friendships, big feelings, self-confidence, or social challenges—but who don’t need therapy. It’s ideal for kids who are bright, kind, and capable, but may feel overwhelmed, shy, unsure of themselves, or just need more tools to thrive socially and emotionally. Learn more on our Who We Serve page.
Do you offer free consultations?
Yes! We offer a free 15-minute parent phone consultation to discuss your child’s needs, answer questions, and help determine if Social Sparks is the right fit. Reach out by email, phone or on our contact page.
Where do sessions take place?
Currently, all sessions will take place in reserved meeting spaces at local public libraries. These spaces offer a safe, comfortable, and neutral setting that supports focus, learning, and accessibility for families.
What ages do you work with?
We specialize in working with children ages 5-14, typically in elementary and middle school.
Do you offer group and individual sessions?
Yes! We offer both small group SEL series and 1:1 skill-building sessions. Some children thrive in a group setting, while others benefit from personalized, one-on-one support. We’re happy to help you choose the best option for your child. Learn more on our Services page.
How long are sessions?
Sessions typically last 45-50 minutes, and programs are designed to be short-term and skills-focused, with clear goals and regular feedback.
How are you different from what my child gets at school?
School counselors do amazing work, but they’re often limited by time and large caseloads. That’s where Social Sparks Coaching comes in: we fill the gap between school-based support and clinical therapy. At Social Sparks Coaching, we’re not therapy—and we’re not bound by school limitations. We offer joyful, practical, and powerful skill-building experiences led by a licensed school counselor with the time and training to focus on your child’s emotional success. Learn more on our About page.
What kind of activities do you use?
We use play-based, hands-on activities like role-play, emotion charades, feelings check-ins, collaborative games, problem-solving challenges, art-based expression, and more—tailored to your child’s age and goals. Learn more on our Skill Building page.
Can I attend sessions with my child?
To foster independence and self-confidence, students are encouraged to participate directly in sessions without parental presence unless otherwise discussed.
Do you accept insurance?
Social Sparks Coaching is a private-pay service and does not bill/accept insurance.
Our work is designed to support social and emotional skill-building in a non-clinical, coaching-based setting. While our sessions can be incredibly beneficial for a child’s emotional growth, they are not therapeutic, diagnostic, or medical in nature. As a result, they do not qualify for insurance reimbursement under mental health coverage.
